2. Why haven't I heard of LILT before?
Laser Solutions uses the Bioflex laser system. Bioflex was only approved by the FDA for use in the United States in 2003.
3. How long has LILT been in use and where?
Initial research started in the 1960's in Japan, Russia, Sweden, Canada and England. Bioflex, which is made by Meditech International Incorporated, is in Toronto, Canada. Their clinic has been in continuous operation since 1989. As of the end of 2005, a second clinic has been opened in the Toronto area. They totally have completed over one million treatments. Meditech is the world leader in laser therapy and have over 300 systems world wide.
4. Are there side effects associated with LILT?
Unlike many pharmaceutical options, BioFlex is non toxic; unlike surgical procedures, it is non-traumatic; and most importantly, it is non-invasive. In over one million treatments in 17 years, there has never been a significant side effect reported.
5. How does LILT work?
A good analogy is to think of plants. Photosynthesis is the process in which all plants use sunlight and chlorophyll to make oxygen and glucose. Without this process there would be no animals on earth. This is a photo chemical reaction, which means using light to produce a chemical reaction.

We are doing the same thing, using different types and wave lengths of light to produce a chemical reaction at a cellular level. Most laser only systems use one type of light at one frequency. Our research has shown that different types of light, red, infrared and laser used in a combination is much more effective than just laser alone.

Different types of molecules absorb different types and wave lengths of light. When these cells are stimulated by the proper type and wave length of light it causes several chemical reactions to occur.

One is the production of the body's own natural pain killer called Beta-endorphins. Another important reaction is the increased production of cortisol, which is the precursor of cortisone. This enables the body to combat the stress associated with trauma.

Other long term effects are, improved cellular metabolism due to increased production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), formation of new blood vessels which increase circulation, elevated levels of serotonin and acetylcholine which increases neurotransmission. There is increased histamine response, increased production of growth hormones, lymphatic drainage is improved and very importantly the body's natural immune system is stimulated.

All we are doing with LILT is to stimulate the body to heal itself, naturally without damaging it with surgery or unnatural chemical drugs.
6. What does a treatment consist of?
It involves placing different light producing heads on the skin's surface. Depending on what we are trying to accomplish, the type of light, duration and wavelength will vary.
7. How long does a treatment take?
Treatments vary from 30 minutes to approximately one hour, depending on the area being treated.
8. How often and how many treatments are needed?
The best course of treatment is three times a week. Clinical results show 5-10% of clients receive some pain relief in one treatment. Results also show it will not work well if only done once a week. The number of treatments vary considerably depending on what part of the body is affected and how long it has been affected.

Skin conditions typically heal the fastest with 3 to 6 treatments being the norm. Back problems, knees and hips usually take longer due to the depth from the skin surface and that bone heals much slower than soft tissues. Typically 15 to 20 treatments are called for in these cases. Every one responds differently. Age, skin type, how long the injury or disease has had time to damage the body are all factors in how long treatments will be needed.
9. Are we doctors?
No we are not. We are trained and certified Laser Therapists. Just like a massage therapist we specialize in only one type of treatment. We do not diagnose diseases or conditions. We will try to work with your doctor to use our therapy to get you the best results possible. Your medical records and tests results will be needed for treatment.

Our goal is:
Elimination of pain.
Obviate the need for drugs.
Restore normal range of motion.
Improve quality of life.
